There is still a good deal of work to do on the little Honda, but I am already thinking of the next project.  The big Moto Guzzi drum will be laced to a 21" shouldered rim and stuck between a set of shaved 41mm panhead legs with slightly narrowed wide glide triple trees for some serious stopping power.  The grey Wassell tank won't go on the CB450; its tank just wasn't around for the mock-up below.

The chrome fender is marked "Chariot Cycle - Made in England."  I will probably use the Wassell fender, but the chrome one is neat too.

Now I just need to find a straight leg panhead frame and an engine.  Small details... :)

Latest Mock-Up

It actually looks like a bike for the first time...

Not sure about the rear fender, and the triple trees and risers could be trimmed up.  It seems like a lot of work for a bike that doesn't look that far from stock, but I'm happy for now...

21" front wheel

Making some progress with the 21" front wheel.  Just received a WM1 Radaelli rim drilled for my 200mm, twin-leading shoe CB77 hub.  Did a rough lace-up to check the rim and spokes.  Now I need to have it done professionally.

Handlebar Setup

I decided to go with drag bars, partly because they're comfortable on my wrecked wrists.

7/8" dog bones proved hard to find.  I was about to bite the bullet and pick up some 1" repops and shims, when an old 7/8" set popped up on ebay, minus two of the caps.  Some CB77 handlebar clamps worked out with a bit of filing.

The Doherty levers required that I replace the nipples on my Honda cable with these brass British pieces.

Eventually I'll ditch my Honda risers and the riser bar in favour of a one-piece system with threaded bungs welded onto the riser bar.

Engine

The engine was a mess.  The crank's main journals were peeling, and the valvetrain - especially the rocker arms - was junk.  I ended up having to find a crank, its needle bearings, and a complete head, as well as the usual consumables.

Current Mock-Up

This is the latest mock-up of my CB450 project since replacing the backbone with thicker-walled, smaller-diameter tubing to fit the Wassell tank.

A couple of frame braces still need to be added, along with some tabs for the side covers, before smoothing and spraying the frame, and beginning assembly.

The headlight needs a proper mount and the fender will probably be replaced with something that doesn't look so goofy.  The front end will eventually be eventually be swapped out for a CB77 front end and 21" rim laced to a CB77 hub.
